We loved welcoming you to The Guards' Chapel, our beloved Queen Elizabeth II. May you rest in peace.
22nd February 2019 - Her Majesty The Queen, today marked the centenary of the granting by King George V of the prefix ‘Royal’ to The Royal Army Chaplains’ Department at The Guards’ Chapel in London. #britisharmychaplaincy
King George V, bestowed the ‘Royal’ title in recognition of #britisharmychaplaincy’s service and sacrifice during WWI where 179 British Army chaplains died in WW1 and three were awarded Victoria Cross Medals.
Formed in 1796, The Royal Army Chaplain’s Department (RAChD) has ministered to soldiers and their families in times of war and peace for centuries.
The Queen, as Patron of the Royal Army Chaplains, joined today’s service and met artist and army veteran Harry Parker who had been commissioned to create three paintings in honour of the anniversary.
